Dr Lobo has completed post-graduate studies in dermoscopy, he has had many years of experience in diagnosing and treating existing skin cancers. Majority of skin lesions can be handled in-house, however at times, a referral to dermatologist or plastic surgeon may be necessary.

- The practice provides dermoscopy, which aids in the early detection of malignant melanoma and other skin cancers. Regular self-assessments and an annual skin check are compulsory in order to prevent the development of skin cancer.

New Zealand has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. This is in part due to the harsh UV radiation from our sunrays. - If left untreated, skin cancers have the potential to become life threatening.
- Prevention is always better than cure. So make sure you cover up, use plenty of appropriate sunblock, avoid getting sunburnt and if unsure about a skin lesion get it checked out.
Harmless Moles
Most moles are completely harmless, they simply may be unsightly and affect your confidence or you regularly catch them on your clothing or even cut them while shaving. Dr Lobo can surgically remove these unwanted moles so you can lead a life free of obstruction to your confidence.
Cancerous Moles
Majority of moles are non-cancerous (benign), in rare cases some develop into skin cancer. Melanoma, the most dangerous of all skin cancers can lead to death, however, if treated at an early stage, 95% can be cured.
Melanomas usually present as either an existing mole which changes into a cancerous lesion, (approximately 20% of presentations) and new moles arising out of no where, de novo moles (these account for approximately 80% of the new melanomas which arise in the population.
Early detection and treatment is vital. Mole checks with the naked eye allow only the surface of the mole to be studied. With digital epiluminescence microscopy (dermoscopy) Dr Lobo can look at the features of a mole or skin lesion below the surface of the skin. Features of the lesion which would not be visible to the naked eye can be seen and enable him to make a more accurate diagnosis.
Images are saved to the patients file and can be compared with images at a later date, therefore picking up small changes, which may indicate a skin cancer.
Surgical Removal
Dr Lobo provides minor surgery for a variety of skin conditions under local anesthetic. This allows for a cost-effective diagnosis and/or removal of skin lesions
